English GCSE
Course Overview
Students will be expected to read and respond to a variety of text types, including fiction and non-fiction. Writing in a number of different styles including descriptive and narrative and writing to express a point of view will also form an important part of the final assessments.
This qualification will require students to take part in a spoken language endorsement in order to qualify for the GCSE.

Year 1 Components
Paper 1 Explorations in creative reading and writing
- Section A: 4 Questions on one fiction text
- Section B: Writing to describe/narrate
Paper 2 Writer’s viewpoints and perspectives
- Section A: 4 Questions on two non-fiction texts (including comparison of attitudes and methods)
- Section B: Writing a viewpoint
Spoken Language Endorsement: Deliver a talk on a topic chosen by the student and answer questions on it following the presentation.
